Hi Everyone,
Bayshore Christian Ministries is looking for in-person volunteers to serve in our middle school robotics program this fall.
This is the 8th year that this program will run for middle school aged students in East Palo Alto and Belle Haven. This year, we will be using the First Lego League (FLL) format. FLL released a teaser video, which can be viewed here.
We're seeking volunteers interested in serving the East-of-Bayshore community and helping students build Lego-based robots that are required to do a set of tasks. You don’t have to be an engineer to be involved, just a willingness to learn EV3 programming - newbies, welcome - training and guidance will be provided! Responsible youth volunteers from age 16 are welcome to join.
The 11-week program runs for two hours each Saturday morning and 1.5 hours on Tuesday evenings, starting August 28. The program will culminate in the FLL competition. There are also volunteer opportunities outside the programming space - we need volunteers to help the kids with a project activity that is related to the FLL challenge - the theme this year is "Cargo Connect."
Please be assured that up-to-date Covid protocols, involving sanitizing, wearing face masks and so forth, will be followed.
This is a great opportunity to help bridge the racial disparities that exist in technology fields. If interested, please email Rajesh Philipos (rgphilipos@gmail.com) or Rosie Valencia
(rosie@bayshore.org).
Warm regards,
Kim
